SLIME INFOGRAPHIC

For this project I chose to focus on the rise of the slime industry. Slime played a big part in my childhood. It was a way for my mom to teach me some simple science and a fun toy for me to play with afterwards. I have very fond memories from my childhood of the times my mom and I would hang out and make slime or as we called it “gak”. In the last few years people’s love for slime started to grow and with it came an entirely new industry.

WRITE-UP

The rise of the slime industry started roughly in 2016 and has exponentially grown in popularity since then. Some people are even able to make a living off of slime. These people, called slimers, post videos on youtube and instagram mainly while putting their slime up for sale on sites like Etsy. Youtubers such as Karina Garcia are making six figures a month alone just on their videos. Other younger slimers have been making enough to start saving up money for their college studies.

Slime videos are some of the most popular videos on youtube and instagram. The videos have gained popularity due to their satisfying nature. The videos are also beloved by the ASMR community. The sound of slime is a very important part of slime’s appeal to some people. The popularity of slime even made an impact on the glue industry itself. For a while in some parts of the United States glue was completely out of stock.

The slime industry is very diverse and you can find all sorts of variations on the classic slime recipe. There are different types of slime such as classic, fishbowl, icee, iceburg, fluffy, cloud, clay, and many more variations of slime. Each slime is made by adding different ingredients to the classic slime recipe. To make classic slime all you need is glue, water, and borax solution. Borax solution can be made by simply dissolving borax into warm water. You can add many things to this recipe to get other types of slime. In order to make fluffy slime you need to add shaving foam and lotion to the glue mixture. This causes the slime to have more air in it and become fluffy. Once the desired slime type is made, slimers will add scents, coloring, glitter, charms, and other things to make themed slimes.

COLOR PALETTE

I wanted to make the color palette fun and youthful to match the subject of the infographic. I did this by including mostly bright colors. I then added the dark green to ground the palette and to give the eye a resting place. In my infographic I mostly used the darker green for the type, in order to make it easier to read.

ICONS

I settled on this style for my icons to keep up the youthful theme of the project.

INFOGRAPHIC POSTERS

Along with the video we were tasked to create some posters that had the same information. These are a few layout ideas I had for the posters.

FINAL INFOGRAPHIC POSTER

The final version of our posters needed to be able to be printed at a local print shop. This gave me the opportunity to learn what goes into the printing process and how to format files for print shops.
